Since Doosan Infracore began producing diesel engines in the year 1958, the company has continued to manufacture its R&D capacities to stay at the forefront of the industry in Korea. In the year 1975, Doosan began mass producing diesel engines at its very first large-scale plant. In ten years the company's production technology had progressed to the point that production of its own diesel engine model was possible. Doosan's leadership position within the business was secured. During 1995 the company produced its very first low-emission diesel engine, followed by commercial vehicle CNG engines after three years. Since the year 2000, the company has developed technology for Tier 3-compliant engines, low-pressure natural gas engines and sophisticated common-rail engines. To be able follow strict Euro emission control standards, the company developed a heavy-duty, low emission diesel engine model during the year 2007.
Doosan Infracore has facilities worldwide to make 60 different engine models, as well as parts and materials. Products include diesel engines and natural gas engines for forklifts, trucks, buses, construction machinery, ships, generators and more. Engines range from 70 to 1,500 hp. Yearly output is currently 75,000 units.
The company is continually engaged in expanding R&D capabilities to increase output and expand to more markets. Demand for more stringent policies governing engine emissions has led the company to make a compressed natural gas engine factory in the United States in 2008, and a joint venture factory within Xuzhou, China. The factory within China can manufacture 50,000 diesel engines on an annual basis, with production scheduled to begin in the year 2011.
