Reach Truck
To be able to keep storage areas orderly and to stock up pallets of goods and supplies, a reach truck could be used. The reach truck is available in quite a few types: the straddle reach, stand-up reach and the double-deep reach.
The simplest type is the stand-up. The truck forks slide under the pallet and move it to the right storage location. The forks slide the pallet into place. This particular kind of reach truck is recommended when shelving units are only one pallet deep.
Best for workplaces where the shelving units are deep enough to have two pallets of goods, the double-deep reach truck, which is similar to the stand-up, is usually used. This particular version consists of telescopic forks designed to put the pallet at the back of the shelving unit. This eliminates the need to push the pallet back when one more pallet must go into the same shelving section.
Straddle reaches have the additional advantage of being able to not just slide under the pallet, but also to grasp the sides. These are recommended for workplaces where shelving units can be accessed in many directions. This model is ideal in conditions where goods will not be damaged if the sides of the pallet are grabbed.
Normally more than one kind of reach truck is required within warehouses. Textile companies and manufacturing facilities use different types of reach trucks in their supply areas. The reach truck is not hard to operate and can increase productivity while making the most of available storage space.
