The lift truck is an important piece of machinery in most companies that operate distribution centers, warehouses, industrial and storage handling facilities. This great machinery, the lift truck is made of numerous components, including the essential carriage, the engine, the power source and the wheels. Forklifts normally have various types of attachments as well. The following are several of the most essential components of a lift truck.
Engine of the Lift Truck - the lift truck is made with a power source at the back of the machinery. Various kinds of lift trucks have different types of engine that require varying power sources. For example, a forklift with an internal combustion engine could have any of the following as its source of power: diesel, gasoline, CNG gas or LP gas. Electric motor lift trucks receive their power from a battery or fuel cells.
Frame of The Truck - the base of the lift truck and the most important of all the lift truck components is the truck frame. This forms the machine's core. All other parts of a lift truck are connected to the base, like the overhead guard, counterweight, axles, mast and wheels. Hydraulic fluid and fuel tanks may be part of the frame assembly as well.
Counterweight Lift Truck Parts - the counterweight is what allows the machine to be balanced while lifting heavy loads. This part is made of heavy cast iron and is connected to the backend of the lift truck. The counterbalance balances the frame of the truck to prevent it from tipping over when a load is being lifted or carried on the front. In an electric lift truck, the heavy lead-acid battery offers balance and can work as part of the counterweight.
The Cab Area - this part is where the operator sits and drives the machinery. Several forklifts have a cab area that is open to the air and some have closed cabs. There are really a lot of components situated within the cab for operating the forks. The cab contains such essential parts like the operator controls, steering wheel, pedals, seats, switches and levers. The dashboard contains operator readouts.
