History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started in 1919. The company was first established by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group bought a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machines. In 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the succeeding years.
