A type of machinery in the material handling industry that could be used to raise and move loads from one place to another is referred to as a forklift. Every component of a forklift has a specific function. Different components could be used to transport the load horizontally or vertically.

Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the components that lower and lift the load. There are various types of masts used for lifting loads to various heights: quad, simplex, duplex and triplex.

Power Supply
There are four various ways you can power a forklift: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the rear of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the back of the truck.

Cab
Situated in the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located within the cab.

Frame
The truck frame carries all the biggest parts of the forklift, including the counterweights, which are situated at the back so as to stop the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame includes the overhead guard that protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
