The Liebherr family business was created in 1949 by Hans Liebherr. The company initially gained fame from its mobile tower crane that was noted for its affordability and ease of assembly. It was upon this creation that the company's foundation flourished under. Today, The Liebherr company has grown to become among the world's leading manufacturers of construction machines. The company has also gained the reputation of being the acknowledged supplier of technically innovative user-oriented products and services in various fields. The company has presently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 35,000 workers and more than 130 companies across the world.

Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located within Bulle, Switzerland and are completely owned by members of the Liebherr family. Now, the family business is being managed by Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr and his sister Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr in the 2nd generation. Since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by family members in the 3rd generation including: Sophie Albrecht, Jan Liebherr, Stefanie Wohlfarth and Patricia Ruf. These members of the family have been working together in order to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of residential buildings and large-scale industrial projects all over the world.
Hans Liebherr started this quest during 1949, with his first company in the tiny South-German town of Kirchdorf/Iller.
